Resolution (22) for the Year 2021 Regarding the Stages of Implementing the Wages Protection Scheme

After reviewing the private sector’s labor law promulgated by Law (36) for the year 2012 and its amendments,
And after reviewing Resolution (68) for the year 2019, regarding the Wages Protection Scheme,
And based on the presentation of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour & Social Development,

Has Decided the Following:
First Article

Every employer shall commit to paying the wages of his employees via any payment methods provided by those licensed by the Central Bank of Bahrain, and in accordance to the following stages:

Stage One: Includes employers with (500) employees or more, this stage shall start on the first of May 2021.
Stage Two: Includes employers with (50 - 499) employees, this stage shall start on the first of September 2021.
Stage Three: Includes employers with (1 - 49) employees, this stage shall start on the first of January 2022.

The employers shall be given a grace period of six month at each stage that starts from the date of it being applied on them, where no violations regarding the implementation of this resolution shall be issued to them whenever they face any practical hardships that prevents them from registering in the Wages Protection Scheme on the mentioned dates.

Second Article
The employer may pay the wages of his employees via any payment methods provided by those licensed by the Central Bank of Bahrain as soon as this system is implemented and without a need to wait for the dates mentioned in the first article.

Third Article
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor & Social Development and all concerned entities – each in their own field - shall execute the articles of this resolution, and it shall come into effect on the next day of being published in the official gazette.
